The story is narrated through three youngsters - Karna (GV Prakash Kumar), a small-time criminal, Rocky (Nandhan Ram), a drug pusher, and Kalai (Pasanga Pandi), who wants to lead a normal life after his release from juvenile prison. From comparing the people to birds who have been caged and the place to a jail, we get what the film is going to tell over the next two hours in these initial few minutes. The film's titles play over visuals of the place - here, it is Kaveri Nagar, standing in for the real-life Kannagai Nagar in Chennai - with a voice-over telling us how the whole process of replacement is wrong.
